Mayor Rick Mueller appointed to Military Affairs Commission by Governor Brewer

The following is a press release from the city of Sierra Vista:

Last week, Mayor Rick Mueller attended his first Arizona Military Affairs Commission meeting in Phoenix. Appointed by Governor Brewer in October, Mayor Mueller is one of several members representing local elected officials within communities impacted by a military installation.

Governor Brewer personally shared her vision of the Commission?s role at the meeting, emphasizing the need to preserve and enhance the capabilities at Arizona?s military installations and protect the $9.2 billion impact on the State economy.

Originally established in 2004 by Executive Order, the Commission was reconstituted by the Legislature last year. The Commission advises the Governor and Legislature on all matters affecting the operational viability of Arizona?s military facilities, and also recommends projects and programs for funding by the Military Installation Fund. They last met over two years ago.

?I am honored to be appointed to this Commission?, said Mayor Mueller. ?I am confident that I can contribute to state-wide policies and actions needed to insure Arizona?s military installations, and the private sector businesses that support them, are strengthened.?

The 15-member Commission, staffed by the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs, meets at least annually to address and make recommendations on issues regarding military installations, training routes and restricted airspace. Members are charged with coordinating efforts to protect Arizona?s current military missions; managing installation issues such as property encroachment; handling quality of life issues for servicemen and women; and recommending modifications and responses to the State?s military missions.
